What are the differences between Stainless Steel 304 and 316?

 

1. Chemical Composition: Stainless steel 304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel, while stainless steel 316 contains 16%-18% chromium, 10%-14% nickel, and 2%-3% molybdenum.

2. Corrosion Resistance: Due to the presence of molybdenum in 316 stainless steel, it has better corrosion resistance, especially against acidic and alkaline substances, compared to 304 stainless steel.

3. Applications: Because of its superior corrosion resistance, 316 stainless steel is more commonly used in environments requiring higher corrosion resistance, such as marine environments or in the chemical industry.
