316L stainless steel, with material number 1.4432, is a low-carbon variant of 316 stainless steel. The low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation, which improves resistance to intergranular corrosion. The typical composition includes:

• Chromium (Cr): 16-18%
• Nickel (Ni): 10-14%
• Molybdenum (Mo): 2-3%
• Carbon (C): ≤ 0.03%
• Manganese (Mn): ≤ 2%
• Silicon (Si): ≤ 0.75%
• Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.045%
• Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.03%

Corrosion Resistance:

316L offers superior resistance to a wide range of corrosive environments. It is particularly effective against pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. Its resistance to sulfuric, hydrochloric, acetic, formic, and tartaric acids, as well as to acid sulfates and alkaline chlorides, makes it ideal for chemical processing and marine applications.
